cooking projects

This weekend I had a little spare time to do some cooking projects!

Back in October I bought this book, Jam It, Pickle It, Cure It: And Other Cooking Projects by Karen Solomon. It's filled with all kinds of fun things to make. I've been sad that I haven't had a chance to use it.

We had some green beans that was too thick to eat raw so I decided to pickle them.

I sure hope I did it right! The sterilizing of the jar and putting the jar of green beans in their hot water bath to process was a little intimidating.

The green beans won't be ready 'til this evening to eat. So I'll let you know how they came out.

I also made some cheese crackers from scratch!

The recipe called for ground almonds and powered mustard to give it some zip. I even put the little dot in the center so they'd look like Cheez-Its. (hee, hee)

I had to bake them a little longer to get the cheese flavor to pop. They are tasty and I would make them again. However, next time I'm going to roll them out thinner and use some sharper cheese.

Maybe I'll make something else from the book soon!
