THE WASH, crafty chicks come clean

I love how social networking allows you to connect with people you’d probably never meat in real life. I met Petergaye through ymib.com and noticed her work making their appearances on lots of blogs lately. I love her textiles and they are getting some well deserved recognition.

Petergaye S. Kisielewicz
MAIN CRAFT: interior and textile design
SITES: yahgie.comyahgieinteriors.com
BLOG: yahgie.blogspot.com
ETSY: Yahgie
TWITTER: @yahgie
FACEBOOK: fan page
LOCATION: South Florida, originally from Jamaica

Petergaye decided to pursue her passion at an early age.

“I started learning illustration at 6 years old. From then I knew that I wanted to be in the design industry. I took a lot of graphics and interior design course and from then I never looked back.”

When Petergaye was 19 she designed her first furniture piece for Brown Jordan International.

Her first job was working for an interior decorator. After working with various interior design firms for about seven years Petergaye went onto forming her own companies including textiles, home accessories and interior design: Yaghie Interiors in 2007 and Yahgie in 2009.

Petergaye designs all of the bright, bold, and colorful textile prints and other accessories with a simple style under her Yahgie Lifestyle brand, which includes Yaghie and Yaghie Interiors. They are Petergaye’s TWO full-time jobs.

Petergaye  believes an interior designer's job is to "enhance the lives of the people they serve," which is why it has become Yahgie’s slogan.

Currently, she freelances with other designers and takes on a small amount of clients giving them the individual attention they deserve.

"Yahgie is my creativity outlet for my long time dream of designing my own home decor products. I’ve never thought myself to be anything else but an artist; it’s who I am.”

Petergaye shares her life with her husband in her South Flordia home. Her home office has a lake view.

“I always find inspiration while I am looking at the ocean. I’m also inspired by my childhood memories, my multi-cultural background and people’s culture. Inspirational quotes, design books and magazines, and the bright colors of my everyday life also inspire me.

I try to stay away from trends and focus on designing prints from a more soulful place (my heart).”

To keep up with her two full-time jobs Petergaye always starts her mornings with high energy workouts, like boxing and running.

“I am nothing without my good health. The key to balancing all aspect of my life is staying healthy as well as staying active mentally, physically and spiritually. Also, knowing that I am doing something that I love keeps me motivated.”

Petergaye was very afraid in being an entrepreneur.

“I have learned not to delay my dreams out of fear. If you delay your dreams because of fear, you are only prolonging your suffering. I enjoy the freedom that owning my own business gives me.”

Petergaye’s advice to others trying to achieve their entrepreneurial dreams is:

"Never give up, pursue your passion and take baby steps towards your goals every day. I always believe that everyone should pursue their passion no matter the odds."
